2010 MARCHING BAND & COLOR GUARD SUMMER BAND CAMP

Monday, August 2 - Friday, August 6                Letter sent to Students 7-15-10                Band Camp Flyer

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday:  9 am to 9 pm    Wednesday:  9 am to 4 pm

This is a mandatory rehearsal camp for band and color guard, held at VCHS. Some dinners will be provided by the boosters. Members will receive a mailing soon about what to bring. Please note:  when we refer to the "band" or "marching band," that includes ALL marching musicians, color guard members, drumline and pit percussion musicians.  It's sometimes easier to just refer to the group as "marching band, " as whole unit.  There will sometimes be individual rehearsals or "sectionals" for each group (brass, winds, drumline, pit, color guard) but if we say "band," it means everyone.

Monday, Aug. 2 - 9 to 9, with dinner provided

Tuesday, Aug. 3 - 9 to 9, with an optional Jamba Juice Jamboree - we will take orders for

Jamba to be delivered by lunch for the kiddos. Dinner provided.

Wednesday, Aug. 4 - 9 to 4 -- Off early!  Yay!

Thursday, Aug. 5 - 9 to 9, dinner provided. Swiming pool open

Mandatory parents meeting Thursday in the big gym, 7:30 pm.

Friday, Aug. 6 - 9 to 9, dinner provided. Closing ceremonies.

Big change in fall rehearsal schedule:  Prior to the start of school, the band will rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  After school starts, the band will rehearse only ONE weeknight - Thursdays, from 3 pm to 8:30 pm, and Saturdays  9 am to 4 pm. On competition Saturdays, there will be rehearsal starting at 9 am, and then travel to the competition site, returning to Valley Christian before midnight. Parents will be given an estimated schedule for each competition the week prior.

FAQ: Why the change from two weeknight rehearsals to one?  The directors believe that there will overall be more productive rehearsal time with just one night. The amount of time for set-up of equipment, warm-up exercises, and clean-up is significant, and with one rehearsal, these activities only need to be done once. Students will take breaks for water and food.  Other high school bands use a one-weeknight + Saturday rehearsal schedule. One-night per week equals m ore family time, more homework time. Assignments given on Thursdays are not due until Monday. The one-night rehearsal schedule benefits PARENTS, STUDENTS and STAFF!!!
